Baskin-Robbins is the first large chain to serve vegan oat milk ice cream. And you can get it at any of the 2,500 locations

For the month of May, Baskin-Robbins is expanding its menu nationwide to include vegan ice cream with oat milk. This makes Baskin-Robbins the first national chain to bring oat milk-based ice cream onto the market. The May taste of the month is Non-Dairy Strawberry Streusel and contains a creamy oat milk base with strawberries, cinnamon granola, and crumbly streusel. The new limited-time flavor is just the beginning for Baskin-Robbins, who plan to bring new vegan flavors out of oat milk later this year.

With so many people living plant-based or flexible lifestyles today, we couldn’t be more excited to launch our new oat milk-based option, “said Shannon Blakely, Vice President of Marketing & Culinary at Baskin-Robbins. “We are so excited about this new base and the new taste of the month that this is not only an evolution of our offerings but also a sign of our passion and commitment to creating the next products in frozen desserts.”

Vegan at Baskin-Robbins

Baskin-Robbins, the world’s largest ice cream chain, has consistently offered sorbet as a non-dairy option. However, in August 2019, the chain launched its first vegan ice cream options based on coconut oil and almond butter. Developed over two years, the first vegan flavors available at Baskin-Robbins were Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough and Chocolate Extreme. The chain expanded its vegan menu to include the Taste of the Month November 2019: Vegan Coffee Caramel Chunk with an espresso-flavored base covered with chocolate pieces and caramel ribbons. In the drinks department, Baskin-Robbins also recently launched the fully vegan Mangonada – a flavorful drink that pays homage to the Mexican favorite made from mango puree and flavored with tajín.

Baskin-Robbins is part of the Dunkin ‘Brands Group, which is working to expand its plant-based offering. Also in 2019, the Dunkin fast-food chain added the Beyond Breakfast Sausage Sandwich (vegan with no cheese and eggs) at its 9,000 locations across the country. This year, Dunkin added additional meatless options: the vegetarian Southwest Veggie Power Breakfast Sandwich and the vegan Dunkin Avocado Toast. Like its sister company Baskin-Robbins, Dunkin entered the oat milk game with the nationwide launch of Planet Oat’s vegan milk last August. While Dunkin’s menu is still missing from the vegan donut section in the US, the chain is further expanding its dairy-free milk menu and adding coconut milk earlier this week.
