Cycle Dogs brings Tex-Mex flavors to Portland with the New Vegan Restaurant
New vegan restaurant in March SxNW (South by Northwest) is scheduled to open in Portland, OR. The new restaurant is a partnership between the Seattle owners Bicycle dogs, Keaton Tucker and Wayward Vegan Cafe, Doh driver. SxNW offers a menu in the South and Southwest with dishes like Texas Beer Bread with herb butter, Santa Fe Dip Burger, Fried Chick’n Sandwiches and Texas Chili with Cornbread.
The restaurant will start with a limited takeout menu before expanding to a more robust alfresco menu this summer. “COVID has changed the start-up landscape and our menu will reflect that as we want to be careful,” Tucker told VegNews. The extended summer menu offers additional dishes such as green chili enchiladas with salad, chick’n fried steak with country sauce, mushroom scallops with coriander cream soup, fried okra and hush puppies as well as desserts such as Dr. Pepper cake and bread pudding. A summer brunch menu features breakfast burritos, vegan chicken and waffles, and cookie sandwiches.
A vegan takeover
SxNW is taking over the space of the former vegan restaurant No Bones Beach Club, which was closed due to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. “MacKenzie DeVito (owner of No Bones Beach Club) approached me about the Portland space,” said Tucker. “She’s been a great mentor to me over the years. I’m forever grateful for what she showed me and for the help she offered.” Tucker also takes over the No Bones restaurant in Seattle to serve Cycle Dogs to make a permanent space.
