First vegan cooking school in Las Vegas to open this spring
Vegan cooking school in April Vegas Vegan Culinary School & Restaurant opens in Las Vegas. Local cook Mindy Poortinga, who has been running Vegan Meals by Mindy for the preparation of meals for six years, has teamed up with vegan colleague Heather Heath to develop the new school. The partners have secured a spot in downtown Las Vegas and plan to create a vegan center for learning and eating. Cooking classes taught by guest chefs and instructors include topics like: Quick Healthy Snacks … That You Will Actually Eat !, Cooking With Trader Joe, Making Tofu That Rocks, and More.
More than just a school
Originally, Poortinga and Heath had planned to create a non-accredited vegan cooking school for anyone who would like to register in person or online for fun lessons. However, as the planning progressed, they decided to offer more. The school will also have a counter selling Vegan Meals by Mindy favorites, an espresso machine, and baked goods. They also plan to introduce a bicycle courier delivery service for delicatessen and meal deliveries. On the school’s website, customers can order from a deli, schedule weekly food delivery, and register and pay for upcoming classes.
“Our school and restaurant will be so much more than a cooking school and restaurant – it will be a vegan center,” Poortinga told VegNews. “We plan monthly fundraisers because it’s community and we’re committed to animal rescue. I run a senior dog hospice, volunteer in local farm sanctuaries, and recently started the LasVegan Food Bank to feed the hungry. Heather is also very active internationally and has her own nonprofit, Willow’s Wish, which focuses on the dog and cat meat trade. We are a company, but we are a company that intends to involve the community and bring them together for a good cause. “
