Slutty Vegan CEO and Steve Harvey work together to restore power to 100 Atlanta residents
More than 100 Atlanta, GA residents no longer have to worry about overdue electricity and gas bills thanks to entertainer Steve Harvey and entrepreneur Pinky Cole (CEO of the thriving Atlanta company) Slutty vegan). Through their respective organizations – the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation and the Pinky Cole Foundation – the duo worked with utility Georgia Power to update residents’ bills and restore power before the New Year. “With the risk of millions of Americans losing power as massive unpaid bills pile up, we had to work with the Pinky Cole Foundation and Georgia Power to pay off shutdown notifications for some Georgia Power customers to remedy the situation. Sharon Page, executive director of the Steve and Marjorie Harvey Foundation, said. “With Mr. and Mrs. Harvey moving to Atlanta, Georgia, their goal is to be a blessing and continue to serve those in need, especially during these unprecedented times.”
Cole founded the Pinky Cole Foundation to help underserved communities in Atlanta and empower generations of colors to get involved financially and commercially. “Giving back is at the core of who we are and what we do. I am excited to be working with the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation and Georgia Power to bring electricity and gas to those in need. We look forward to this further partnership, ”said Cole. “This is another way we collectively use our platforms to get to the communities we serve and my personal way of saying thank you to the communities that support me all year round.”
Cole launched the Slutty Vegan Food Truck in August 2018, selling provocatively named vegan burgers made with an Impossible burger patty stacked with various toppings and lathered with a secret sauce. After the truck pulled lines of more than 500 hungry guests waiting to be “scuttled” for five hours, Cole opened its first stationary location in Atlanta in January 2019 and attracted 1,200 customers on the opening day. Last summer, Cole opened Slutty Vegan’s second brick-and-mortar location in Jonesboro, GA. In October, Slutty Vegan expanded to a third location in the Edgewood neighborhood of Atlanta – known as the childhood district of civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Cole is currently expanding the business to additional locations (including his first outpost outside of Georgia) in Birmingham, AL) and into new concepts (such as Bar Vegan at the Ponce City Market Food Hall in Atlanta).
During her growing success, Cole has helped her community in a variety of ways through her foundation, including paying tuition fees for 30 Clark Atlanta University students last year to help them stay in school. Feeding Key Workers During Ongoing COVID-19 Pandemic; give formerly imprisoned youth jobs; and helping Americans register last year through a national campaign sponsored by music legend Jermaine Dupri.
