Spain’s largest pizza chain has just added vegan meat and cheese to its menu
This week, Spain’s largest pizza chain Telepizza covered the completely vegan menu “Las Veguis” with plant-based meat and dairy-free cheese. The new menu includes vegan cheese from Violife as well as vegan NoPollo chicken and vegan NoPicada minced meat from the Dutch brand The Vegetarian Butcher. The Las Veguis menu offers vegan NoPollo nuggets and three pizzas: Montaña Vegui (topped with tomatoes, vegan cheese, mushrooms, onions and NoPollo); Varbecue Vegui (topped with barbecue sauce, vegan cheese, tomatoes, NoPicada, corn and NoPollo); and Campesina Vegui (topped with tomatoes, vegan cheese, mushrooms, onions, roasted red peppers and black olives). The chain offers their Las Veguis menu at the same price as their other animal options.
“Food safety is a fundamental pillar at Telepizza. For the launch of the vegan line, which we have been working on for a long time, we examined the best options and avoided mistakes from other brands, ”said Nacho Martín, Chief Supply Chain Officer of Telepizza parent company Food Delivery Brands. “Vegetarians have had a lot of products on our menu for years … but to create a product that is 100 percent suitable for vegans, we had to do it with safety and maximum transparency [and we choose to collaborate] with partners like The Vegetarian Butcher and Violife who have extensive experience in the industry. “
Vegetable fast food in Spain
Telepizza is the latest fast food chain innovating its plant-based options menu in Spain. In August 2019, Spanish Taco Bell locations added vegan beef made from a blend of oats, beans and peas from the Finnish brand Gold & Green Foods. This is the first clearly labeled option for vegetarian meat. In 2020 Papa John’s also got into the vegan game with the introduction of two pizzas: Papa John’s Green (made with tomato sauce, onions, black olives, tomatoes, green peppers, mushrooms and vegan cheese) and Papa John’s Green PLUS (made with tomato sauce, Tomatoes, green peppers, mushrooms, vegan cheese and topped with vegetable Beyond Burger meat).
