Starbucks is launching four vegan sandwiches in the UK
Loads of exciting vegan options are on the way to Starbucks locations in the UK. In honor of Veganuary – a campaign calling on people to go vegan for the month of January – the chain will update its menu with four new vegan dining options. Starbucks will add two sandwiches: a Beyond Meat Breakfast Sandwich, made from a Beyond Meat patty and served on a pretzel roll with tomato relish, scrambled tofu eggs, and vegan cheese; and a Cheese & Marmite Mini Ciabatta Sandwich with grated, ripe, vegan cheddar cheese. The chain also offers two wraps: Chick’n & BBQ Bean Hot Wrap, filled with flame-roasted Chick’n, barbecue beans, spinach, red onions, coriander and lime juice; and sweetcorn fritter wrap, filled with a piece of golden corn, a smoky barbecue sauce and red cabbage, wrapped in a tomato tortilla.
Local media issue Vegan Food UK first shared the news with a photo of the new options on the Starbucks menu bar, all of which are marked with a “vegan” label.
Stateside Starbucks options
Veganuary is only in its second year of operation in the US and US companies are yet to change their menus at the UK company level. However, Starbucks is actively adding plant-based options to its US menus to offset the carbon footprint caused by dairy products.
Starting this spring, Starbucks will offer oat milk at all locations nationwide – in addition to the existing plant-based milk options. In June, the chain added the Impossible Breakfast Sandwich to its menu nationwide, making it the first time it had plant-based meat on its menu. While this sandwich cannot be ordered vegan – because it is prepackaged with animal products – Starbucks is currently testing a fully vegan sandwich with sausage, eggs and cheese at a location in Issaquah, WA.
