These new vegan leather shoes and the fruity cobbler are made from the same things
On April 22nd, the shoe brand Sylven New York is launching the world’s first vegan sneaker made from apples and coconut in honor of Earth Day. The “Mel” sneaker is handmade in Italy from apple leather, coconut shells and a renewable rubber made from tree sap. The apple leather, made from organic apple waste from Italy, is a material that has long been used by the brand. The coconut shells and the lactate hevea rubber are new natural materials that are incorporated into the new shoe. The Mel will retail for $ 275 and come in two colors: white with red accents and black with natural stitching.
Made from edible materials
As part of the launch and to highlight the sneaker’s natural and edible materials, Sylven New York teamed up with Chrissy Tracey –Good AppetiteFirst vegan chef – develops a special vegan recipe for apple and coconut cobblers that will be officially published on the day of the shoe launch on April 22nd. “We love playing with materials that sound like ingredients,” said Casey Dworkin, founder and creative director of Sylven New York. “It was so natural to work with someone like Chrissy to dig deeper into the apple and coconut combo.”
The launch follows the brand’s announcement that it will become a fully vegan brand by the end of this year. The current vegan collection from Sylven New York makes up 50 percent of the offer. The new Mel sneaker will be available on the brand’s website together with digital partners Garmentory, Verishop and Immaculate Vegan.
