Vegan Sloppy Joe Shop is coming to Texas
The vegan Sloppy Joe goes shopping on March 27th Neat Ben’s Sloperia officially opens in San Antonio, TX. The restaurant offers plant-based versions of the messy childhood favorite, traditionally made from ground beef cooked in a tomato sauce and served in a hamburger bun.
Tidy Ben’s concept began as a take-away ghost kitchen and then began hosting pop-ups at other restaurants and events. Tidy Ben’s offers vegan sloppy joe-style sliders in three flavors (BBQ, fiesta and curry), consisting of vegan meat crumbles fried with vegetables and smothered in a traditional sauce and served in a sweet Hawaiian-style bun. The restaurant also offers Sloppy Frito Pie and Sloppy Tots, which have the vegan meat stacked on top of fritos corn chips or tater tots.
“There’s a bit of nostalgia when it comes to Sloppy Joes,” Tidy Ben founder Ben Cardenas told the media company Kens5. “I ask people,” When was the last time you had a sloppy joe? “And most of the time … they say,” Oh, it’s been years, I haven’t had it since elementary school. “
Tidy Ben’s new store is in the garden entrance of the comedy club Jokesters 22 Pub and Grub. Cardenas plans to expand the concept of Tidy Ben in other ways, including helping fight food insecurity in San Antonio by offering a meal plan for what you can.
