Vegan TikTok videos have been viewed more than 8 billion times
Vegan videos have been viewed 8.1 billion times on TikTok, according to a new analysis by the UK vegan chewing gum company Tough. With vegan mentions growing on social media, the company was inspired to analyze trending vegan hashtags on TikTok, which currently has around a billion users worldwide.
While videos tagged with #vegan were viewed 8.1 billion times, videos tagged with #veganrecipe and #veganrecipes had a total of 939 million views, with #veganfood having 690.8 million views. Chewsy compiled a list of the 50 most popular vegan foods and found that #vegancheese, #veganchicken, and #veganicecream received 20.1 million, 16.6 million and 13.3 million views, respectively. Other most viewed vegan videos included references to vegan smoothies, cookies, and pasta.
Viral vegan TikTok videos
Chewsy’s data proves that vegan videos thrive on TikTok, not least because of the celebrities who share them. Vegan influencer Tabitha Brown joined TikTok in March on the bequest of her daughter Choyce and garnered a million followers in less than a month after posting a video recipe for vegan carrot bacon that is currently viewed 3.7 million times.
In June 2020, Lizzo announced her veganism on TikTok with a video showcasing her favorite breakfast recipe for curing a hangover – scrambled eggs made from ONLY egg, vegan carne asada, spinach and non-dairy pepper-jack cheese, served with a side dish on plant-based foods Base bacon cooked crispy in maple syrup. Prior to the announcement, the megastar spent all summer sharing vegan recipes on TikTok, including their spicy vegan version of McDonald’s McChicken sandwich, Jamaican patties, and vegan ice cream made with Ben & Jerry’s Netflix & Chilll’d non-dairy ice cream flavor .
